When we read Namecheap's shared hosting page, a 30-day free trial was switched on by default and marked "Limited time only", and the money-back guarantee applied only when you bought without the trial. Only first-time shared hosting customers qualify for the money-back guarantee. Decide which one you want before you pay: the trial lets you try first, the paid plan with the guarantee lets you ask for your money back.

Read the renewal line, not the headline: a cheap first year followed by a large renewal can cost more over three years than a plan with a smaller discount. Add the first year and two renewal years before you choose.
4. Namecheap Black Friday Deal: Coupons on New Hosting and Domains (Late November)
Namecheap's Black Friday sale has been a coupon on new shared hosting and on new domains, not a lower renewal. In 2025 its shared hosting page offered "up to 80% off Shared Hosting" with a coupon during a promotion that ran November 21 to December 5, and its homepage promoted a cheap first-year .COM for new customers. In 2021 its page said the 30-day money-back guarantee did not apply to Black Friday shared hosting purchases.

This section matters for anyone setting up a new website. Many hosting companies push you to register your domain with them. Here is why keeping them apart is often the better choice, and how to do it.
Why Bundling Domains with Hosting Is a Trap
- Lock-in risk: when your domain is with your host, switching providers becomes complicated. You have to transfer the domain as well as migrate the site: two separate processes, two potential failure points.
- Domain privacy: some hosts charge extra for domain privacy, and the charge recurs every year. Compare what each registrar includes before you choose.
- Pricing independence: registrars price domains as their core business. Hosting companies register domains as a convenience, and their renewal prices can be higher.
- Security separation: if your hosting account is compromised, your domain stays under a separate login at a separate company. An attacker who gets into your host cannot redirect your domain.
- Flexibility: pointing your domain from one host to another needs no domain transfer, just a nameserver update at your registrar.

Sign up at your chosen host. It gives you two nameserver addresses (for example ns1.yourhost.com and ns2.yourhost.com), usually in the welcome email.

Log into your Namecheap dashboard. Go to Domain List → Manage, find Nameservers, switch to Custom DNS and enter the two nameserver addresses from your host.

- Go to Namecheap and search for your domain or choose a hosting plan.
- Add it to the cart and open the cart.
- Find the promo code field.

Namecheap Domain Renewal Strategy: How to Minimize Your Annual Cost
Since coupon codes do not help with renewals, here is how to keep domain costs down over time.
1. Multi-Year Registration Upfront
When you first register a domain, look at registering for 2 to 5 years. Before you do, compare the cart total for one year with the total for several: a first-year promo price usually covers year one only, and the extra years are charged at the regular rate. A longer registration mostly saves you from forgetting a renewal, and from any price rise during that period.
2. The November BFCM Window
Namecheap's late-November sale has offered coupons on new hosting and new domains. None of the archived sale pages we keep shows a discount on renewals, so do not plan a renewal around it. If you are adding new domains or new hosting anyway, the sale is the time to buy.
- In October, review your domain expiry dates in the Namecheap dashboard.
- Renew each domain at the standard rate before it expires; do not let a domain lapse waiting for a sale.
- Buy new domains and new hosting during the sale, when the first-year prices are lowest.
3. Transfer Strategy for Expensive TLDs
If you have domains at a registrar with higher renewal prices, a transfer can lower your yearly bill:
- Compare the renewal price at your current registrar with the transfer price at the new one, for the same extension.
- A transfer usually includes one year of registration: you pay the new registrar's transfer fee and a year is added to your expiry date.
- Transfer eligibility: the domain must be more than 60 days old and unlocked at your current registrar.
4. The WHOIS Privacy Calculation
Domain privacy hides your name, address, phone number and email from the public WHOIS record. Some registrars include it at no charge, others charge for it every year. Multiply any yearly privacy charge by the number of domains and the years you plan to keep them: on a portfolio, it can cost more than the domains' price difference.

EasyWP Starter was the slowest of the three on every measure, and it was the only one of the three with failed requests over the full load ramp. Namecheap's Stellar plans are a different product and we have no measurement of them. Prices in the last row are first-term prices; ScalaHosting's is for its Mini plan, which we did not benchmark.
When Namecheap hosting is acceptable: a personal portfolio with little traffic, a placeholder site while you build something, a low-priority project. For those, Stellar at $2.28/mo for the first year is inexpensive; just budget for the $55.88 yearly renewal.
When to look elsewhere: a WordPress site that needs to stay fast under traffic, a WooCommerce store, a business site that runs paid ads. Choose a host whose load results you can see, then point your Namecheap domain to it.
