Privacy Policy

Here is what ThatMy.com actually does with your data: we collect the email address you give us if you subscribe to the newsletter or email us directly, our CDN keeps standard server access logs, and that is it. We do not sell anything to anyone. This page explains the details.

The Short Version

Privacy in Plain Language — The 2-Minute Summary

Before we get into the formal policy, here is what you actually need to know about your privacy when visiting ThatMy.com:

Email is opt-in only

We only get your email if you actively give it to us, either by subscribing to the newsletter or by emailing us directly. Just reading the site does not require any sign-up.

No cross-site tracking

We do not run Google Analytics, Facebook Pixel, or behavioral ad trackers. We do not follow you around the web or build a profile of your browsing.

Your email is never sold

We do not sell, rent, or hand over our subscriber list to advertisers, data brokers, or anyone else. The newsletter list is used only to send you the newsletter.

We use specific third parties

Newsletter emails are stored and sent through MailerLite. The site is hosted on a CDN that keeps standard access logs. Both are detailed below.

Third-party links have their own policies

When you click an affiliate link, the destination site may set cookies. Their privacy policy governs that — not ours.

Data Collection

What Information ThatMy.com Collects

There are three categories of information involved when you use this site: information you actively give us, information our infrastructure providers log, and information third-party affiliate networks receive when you click their links. Each is covered below.

1. Newsletter Subscriptions (Active Opt-In)

If you fill out the newsletter form at /newsletter/, you are submitting:

  • Your email address (required)
  • Your first name (optional)
  • The date and time you subscribed, and the source page

This data is sent to and stored at MailerLite, our email service provider. MailerLite is GDPR-compliant and based in the EU. Their privacy policy is at mailerlite.com/legal/privacy-policy. MailerLite stores standard email engagement data (opens, clicks) for the newsletter. We use that data only to improve which topics we send. We do not sell, rent, or share the subscriber list with anyone.

You can unsubscribe at any time using the one-click link at the bottom of every newsletter email. Unsubscribing removes your address from the active sending list.

2. Direct Email Correspondence (Active Opt-In)

If you email mangesh@thatmy.com or support@thatmy.com:

  • We receive your email address and the content of your message
  • We use this solely to respond to your inquiry
  • We do not add you to the newsletter list without your explicit consent
  • We do not share your email address with any third party
  • Email correspondence is stored in our mail provider's inbox and only accessible to Mangesh Supe

3. Server Access Logs (Automatic, via CDN)

The site is served through a content delivery network (Netlify), which maintains standard server access logs for security and performance. These logs typically include:

  • The IP address that made the request
  • The requested URL and HTTP response code
  • The user-agent string (browser and operating system)
  • The referring URL, if any
  • A timestamp

This is standard infrastructure logging, retained for a limited period by the CDN provider and used for abuse prevention, debugging, and performance monitoring. We do not use these logs for advertising or behavioral profiling. Netlify's privacy policy is at netlify.com/privacy.

What we do not do: we do not run Google Analytics, Facebook Pixel, Hotjar, Mixpanel, or any other behavioral analytics or advertising tracker on this site. We do not build a per-visitor profile of which pages you read. We do not cross-reference newsletter subscribers against site visits.

4. Affiliate Link Tracking (Third-Party)

When you click an affiliate link to a hosting company, your browser is redirected to their site with a referral parameter (typically an affiliate ID in the URL). Their server sets a cookie under their domain so they can attribute any future purchase back to ThatMy.com. We receive only aggregated commission reports from these networks, such as "3 signups this week", with no personal information about who clicked or purchased. See the Cookies section below for more on third-party cookies.

Cookies & Tracking

Cookies: What We Use and What We Do Not

First-Party Cookies

ThatMy.com does not set any first-party tracking cookies on its content pages. Browsing reviews, comparisons, and guides does not place any thatmy.com cookie in your browser.

The one exception is the newsletter signup page at /newsletter/. If you submit the form, MailerLite (our email service provider, on a third-party domain) may set a cookie related to that submission. No tracking cookie is placed simply by visiting the page; the cookie only appears if you actively submit the form.

Third-Party Cookies (Affiliate Links)

When you click on an affiliate link on ThatMy.com, you are redirected to a third-party hosting company's website. That company's website may set their own cookies to:

  • Track that you were referred by ThatMy.com (for commission attribution purposes)
  • Maintain your session on their website
  • Remember your cart contents or preferences
  • Track purchases for their own analytics

These cookies are set by the hosting company, not by ThatMy.com. They are governed by each company's own privacy policy. We have no control over and no access to these third-party cookies.

Practical implication: If you want to support ThatMy.com through affiliate links without any third-party cookies being set, you would need to use a cookie-blocking browser extension. However, this would also prevent the affiliate attribution from working, meaning we would not receive a commission for your purchase. That is your choice to make — we want you to have the information.

Analytics

ThatMy.com does not use Google Analytics, Hotjar, Mixpanel, Facebook Pixel, or any other third-party behavioral analytics or advertising service that would set tracking cookies. The closest thing to analytics we have access to is (a) aggregate page-view counts from CDN logs and (b) email open and click rates inside MailerLite for newsletter campaigns. Neither is used to profile individual readers. If we ever add a different analytics tool, we will update this policy and pick one that is cookie-free and privacy-respecting.

Third-Party Links

Links to Other Websites

ThatMy.com contains links to external websites, including:

  • Hosting company websites (affiliate and non-affiliate links)
  • Testing tool websites (k6.io, GTmetrix, Pingdom, etc.)
  • Research sources (Reddit, Trustpilot, BBB, etc.)
  • Professional profiles (LinkedIn)

We are not responsible for the privacy practices of any external website. When you leave ThatMy.com by clicking a link, the privacy policy of the destination website applies — not this one.

We strongly recommend reviewing the privacy policy of any website before you provide personal information, especially hosting company websites where you will be entering payment details. Even hosting providers we recommend highly operate independently of ThatMy.com and have their own data practices.

Specifically regarding affiliate link tracking

When you click an affiliate link, the URL may contain tracking parameters (such as affiliate IDs or campaign codes) that allow the hosting company to identify the source of the referral. These parameters are passed to the hosting company's website and processed by their systems. ThatMy.com does not receive individual click-level data — we receive only aggregated commission reports (e.g., "3 signups this week") without personal information about who clicked or purchased.

Children's Privacy

Children Under 18

ThatMy.com is intended for adults making decisions about web hosting for personal or business purposes. Our content is not directed at children under the age of 18.

Since ThatMy.com does not collect any personal information from site visitors, there is no specific mechanism by which we would knowingly collect data from children. However, as a matter of policy, we do not knowingly engage with or collect information from anyone under 18 years of age.

If you are a parent or guardian and believe a child under 18 has provided us with personal information (for example, via email), please contact us at mangesh@thatmy.com immediately and we will take appropriate action.

Your Rights

Your Privacy Rights

GDPR Rights (European Union Visitors)

If you are located in the European Union, you have rights under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), including:

  • Right to access — request what personal data we hold about you
  • Right to rectification — have inaccurate data corrected
  • Right to erasure — have your personal data deleted
  • Right to data portability — receive your data in a machine-readable format
  • Right to object — object to processing of your personal data
  • Right to withdraw consent — withdraw any consent you previously gave (e.g. by unsubscribing from the newsletter)

The personal data we may hold about you is limited to: (a) your email address and first name if you subscribed to the newsletter, plus engagement metadata in MailerLite, and (b) the contents of any email correspondence you have sent us. To exercise any GDPR right, email mangesh@thatmy.com with the request and the email address it concerns. We will respond within 30 days.

Our legal basis for processing newsletter subscriptions is your consent, which you gave by submitting the signup form. You can withdraw it at any time by unsubscribing.

CCPA Rights (California Residents)

California residents have rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA). We do not sell personal information in any form. The only personal data we hold from California residents is the same as for any other reader: newsletter subscription data (if you subscribed) and direct email correspondence (if you emailed us). To exercise any CCPA right, including a request to access or delete your data, contact mangesh@thatmy.com.

How to exercise these rights: email us from the address you want us to look up, tell us what you need (access, deletion, etc.), and we will respond within 30 days. Newsletter unsubscribes are immediate and one-click — you do not need to email us for that.
