1. Upfront Prepaid Billing: 36 Months Is the Lock-In
Unlike Cloudways (billed monthly for the server you run), Bluehost charges the whole term upfront at signup. Choose 36 months of Business and you pay $251.64 at once. This lock-in is the cost of the sale price. Shorter terms are available but cost more per month:
- 36-month term: lowest monthly rate ($6.99/mo for Business). Biggest upfront payment.
- 12-month term: higher per month ($7.99/mo for Business), and it renews higher too ($15.99/mo).
- Monthly billing: $20.99/mo for Business, with no sale price.
2. The Renewal Shock: Year 4 Reality Check
After your 36-month term ends, Bluehost renews at the standard rate, not your sale price. Business renews at $13.99/mo. That is $167.88 a year, compared with $83.88 a year during the sale term.
Action required 60 days before your term ends:

My honest take: Bluehost is a budget starter host. The WordPress.org listing keeps it in front of beginners, but that listing says nothing about performance, and in my benchmark its former Choice Plus plan failed 39.04% of requests under load. For a small hobby blog, the $6.99/mo Business sale price is fair value, as long as you set a reminder to move before year 4.
