All three let you place the site in Australia and all three held up on our benchmark without a single failed request with up to 250 clients at once. I tested eight hosts on the same test site and ranked only those whose own pages offer an Australian location, because for Australian visitors the location matters more than anything else on the order form.
Here is the limit of what I know. Our test sites sat on servers in New York or Frankfurt, and we measured them from 10 locations. None is in Australia; the nearest is Singapore. So the load and uptime results tell you how good each platform is, and the location list tells you whether you can put it near your visitors. Prices are in each host's own currency, and the six-year totals use the renewal price, because that is what you pay after the first term.

- The test servers sat in New York or Frankfurt. Hostinger and SiteGround answered fastest from Frankfurt, where their test servers were; the rest from New York.
- Response time (TTFB) from 10 locations: New York, Dallas, Toronto, London, Amsterdam, Frankfurt, Sao Paulo, Singapore, Tokyo and Mumbai, at the origin with no CDN. None is in Australia; Singapore is the nearest.

ChemiCloud is shared hosting with cPanel and the LiteSpeed web server, and it lets you place the site in Sydney. Its WordPress hosting page for Australia also advertises a free .com.au domain. On our benchmark Pro held up through the whole load ramp without a failed request: slower than the cloud servers below, but ahead of every other shared plan in this comparison.
The reason it ranks first for everyday sites is the whole package. One bill covers the hosting, the email accounts and the backups, and over six years it is the cheapest host with an Australian location on this page, at $752 including three years at the renewal price. The low price needs the 36-month term; on 12 months it is $4.49/mo.

Entry Cloud is a managed cloud server with CPU cores and memory reserved for your account, and it was the fastest plan in this comparison: 58ms with 100 visitors at once. SPanel, ScalaHosting's own control panel, covers email accounts, DNS, SSL and site installs, so you get a cloud server without a separate email bill.
Two things to weigh. It costs more: $2,336 over six years on the 36-month term. And ScalaHosting's map places its Australian location on the partner cloud it integrates with, not on its own data centers, so ask its sales chat to confirm the Australian location for the plan you buy. Cloudways sets up and manages a cloud server on DigitalOcean, Vultr and other clouds, and lets you pick Sydney. There is no contract: you pay for the server by the hour, billed monthly, and resize it in a few clicks when traffic grows. Its server stack layers Nginx, Apache, Varnish and object caching, and the Vultr High Frequency server held up through our load ramp without a failed request.

FastComet FastCloud Plus
FastComet has had a Sydney data center since January 2020. FastCloud Plus answered in 420ms with 100 concurrent users and failed 0.19% of requests over the full ramp. It is $6.29/mo on 36 months and renews at $17.95/mo, so six years cost $873, more than ChemiCloud for a slower result under load.
Hosting.com
Hosting.com lists Sydney for its Starter, Pro and Max plans and its cloud servers. We tested Turbo Boost, a plan inherited from A2 Hosting and no longer sold: 534ms with 100 concurrent users, 0.3% failed. SiteGround GrowBig
SiteGround lists a data center in Australia among its 11, and GrowBig includes staging, daily backups and email. Under load it was the weakest plan with an Australian location: 780ms with 100 concurrent users and 4% of requests failed on a ramp that stopped at 100 clients. Tested or Compared, Without an Australian Location
Hostinger Unlimited
Hostinger held up well on our benchmark, 430ms with 100 concurrent users and 0.64% failed, and it is cheap at $3.99/mo on 36 months. But the Hostinger pages we read list no Australian data center, and its VPS page names North America, Europe, Asia and South America. HostPapa
HostPapa markets to Australian small businesses through its own Australian site, but that site says customer sites are hosted in data centres in Europe and North America. We have not benchmarked HostPapa. Its Start plan is $2.95/mo on 36 months and renews at $11.99/mo.
Bluehost Choice Plus
Bluehost was the weakest plan in our benchmark. Choice Plus answered one visitor in 262ms from New York, but with 100 at once it took 1240ms and over the ramp it failed 3,221 of 8,250 requests. Whatever its server location, that is not a result we would put a business site on.
Australian-Owned, Not Tested Yet: VentraIP
VentraIP is Australian owned and operated, keeps its hosting in Sydney and runs its support team in Australia. Its WordPress plans include hourly backups, no lock-in contract and a 45-day money-back guarantee, and it is a well-known registrar for .com.au domains. We have not benchmarked it, so it is not ranked. VentraIP bills in Australian dollars, including GST: Entry is A$5.50/mo for the first year and renews at A$11.00/mo; Growth is A$11.50/mo, renewing at A$23.00/mo; Professional is A$15.75/mo, renewing at A$31.50/mo.
Why an Australian Server Matters
Every page a server builds for a visitor makes a round trip across the distance between them. On our benchmark the same server answered from Singapore three times slower than near home: ChemiCloud 78ms against 256ms, ScalaHosting 38ms against 124ms. Nothing about the server changed, only the distance, and Sydney or Perth is farther from New York or Frankfurt than Singapore is.
A CDN helps with images, scripts and cached pages, but it cannot answer what only the server can: contact forms, carts, checkouts, searches and your own admin area. So the order of choices is: a host with an Australian location, then a plan that stays fast under load, then a CDN on top.

Do You Need a .com.au Domain?
If you trade in Australia, a .com.au is worth having: Australian visitors read it as a local business, and it tells search engines who your site is for. To register one you need an Australian presence, such as an ABN, an ACN or a registered business name. The domain and the hosting are separate purchases: you can register it with any accredited registrar, VentraIP among them, and point it at any host on this page. ChemiCloud's Australian WordPress page advertises a free .com.au domain with its plans.
