A landing page is a page that is not linked to the site navigation, this is the destination page that visitors reach after clicking on an ad, it may be a PPC ad, a display ad, or another type of online ad.

Work before and after creating landing pages

To ensure success, there are a number of prerequisites you need to meet before creating a landing page.

  1. Define landing page goals: what do you hope to achieve? Are you planning soft marketing and offering an e-book to new subscribers? Or, do you take a more direct approach and want visitors to sign up for an online account?
  2. Complete your product: Make sure you have completed the product to be promoted before creating the page, so you can collect leads immediately after publishing the landing page.
  3. When you build the page.
  4. Tailoring to the potential user: in order to get a page to convert, you need to understand the pain points of your target audience and list solutions to those problems.
  5. Creating variants for testing: building another variant helps to determine which elements boost conversions, and if you are new to A/B testing, it is best to test the elements that have the greatest impact first, such as headlines, images, background colors, table lengths, etc.
  6. Make sure all variants are mobile-responsive: If the page is poorly designed and doesn't render perfectly on mobile devices, it will definitely affect conversion rates.
  7. After the page is completed and published.
  8. Send traffic to this dedicated page: You should not send visitors to the home page or any other page on the site, as these pages are usually too intrusive.

What should be included on the landing page

To create a high converting landing page, you should strike the right balance between the following core elements.

  1. Title

Your headline should be compelling and clear to understand, and contain your unique value proposition, which helps convince visitors why they should do business with you (and not your competitors).

MindShift incorporates a value proposition inside the title: fully functional IT management and award-winning customer support.

  1. Content

The page content should provide enough information for the visitor, mainly about the benefits the product brings, rather than just introducing the features. As much as possible, it should be written in a conversational manner so that visitors feel like they are the focus of the entire page.

Zoho is a great example of a service that not only uses the word you multiple times to solve a visitor's problem, but also explains how their service can benefit the user:.

  1. Call-to-action button

Your call-to-action is the gateway to your conversion target, the last act before a visitor is converted. Therefore, make sure your call-to-action is clear and easy to read and color-coded. In addition, the more personalized the text on the button is, the better the landing page will convert.

Instapage has a contrasting call-to-action phrase button.

  1. Image

The purpose of images is not just to make the page look better, but to be relevant to your conversion goals and to help illustrate the impact of your product or service on the user.

Unbounce explains the benefits of the product through a motion graphic.

  1. Lead Capture Form

A form is an element used to collect visitor information, including name, email, phone number, job title, etc. It should not be so complex as to scare visitors away.

  1. Other contents

In addition to the 5 core elements above, your landing page can also include content such as customer testimonials, trust indicators and videos.

You will then see three options for creating a page: a standard page, an AMP page, and uploading an Instapage file:.

We select the first one, which will next access the library of pre-defined templates:.

Click on one of the templates, enter the page name, and start creating the landing page:.

Most of the content is already generated automatically, you just need to make some changes according to your needs, and then click the Publish button in the top right corner. If you have not created A/B tests, then Instapage will pop up a box prompting.

As a demo, I have chosen to go ahead and publish.

Now that the landing page is created and published, Instapage takes all the pain out of the process and also allows you to A/B test easily.

How to promote my landing page

Just creating landing pages won't get you immediate conversions; after all, you still need to generate traffic, set up follow-up processes, and promote the pages on the appropriate channels.

There are two common ways to promote a landing page.

  1. Paid promotion: including PPC (e.g. Google Ads and Bing Ads), social media, targeted advertising, etc..
  2. Free promotion: Promote your landing page through email campaigns or through blog posts and social media.
  3. After generating traffic and getting some conversions, you can start trying to increase conversions through A/B testing. With A/B testing, you can create different variants of the landing page format and distribute traffic between multiple variants to see which one generates more conversions.
